Proposed Solution and Poster

Proposed Solution

After reviewing the SWOT analysis and information from the interviews, it was determined that the DSA had no pressing organizational issues. Rather, the nonprofit just needed to find ways to advertise the new Cafe and teaching kitchen. The two solutions our group had were using existing connections to advertise the Cafe and creating a social media presence. In the age of technology, our group was surprised that there was no social media presence for the Cafe; we created a Facebook page and Yelp page as a result. We also advertised to our own connections. I told my Riot Act members to visit the Cafe and one other group member sponsored a cookie sale with her sorority (the cookies were prepared by the Cafe). As a result, $200 were raised and donated to the Cafe!

Poster Explained

Our final deliverable for the DSA and the BHLP was a poster explaining what we learned throughout the project planning process, as well as what skills we acquired. Personally, I learned how to facilitate team work in the midst of conflict. I had a teammate that was struggling to make deadlines for work and come to team meetings. Rather than scolding and shaming him for it, I readjusted my communication style to give him frequent reminders and an open text line in case he needed additional help. I also learned the many obstacles in the way of funding the DSA, such as  a lack of funding to create other ads (i.e., radio or TV) and struggling with finding ways to execute assignments. Rather than throwing the towel in, I encouraged my group to take advantage of what we already had access to, like social media, and not being afraid to ask for outside help.
