Tier 1: The Emerging Leader

True Colors

Five Exemplary Practices of Leadership

About Tier 1

All Tier 1 members complete a personality survey called "True Colors" to determine what color matches their leading style and personality. This directly relates to the Tier 1's philosophy of understanding the Self to concentrate on positive traits for leadership and paying attention to negative traits to recognize and control.

Five Exemplary Practices of Leadership

About Tier 1

Tier 1 of the BHLP is focused on the leader as an individual, taking into account their personality traits, personal mission, and methods of building team morale. It's a time for leadership skill development on a personal level, which is aided through volunteer experiences and workshops held outside of the classroom.

Five Exemplary Practices of Leadership

These practices are not only the foundation of the Tier 1 experience, but the BHLP as a whole. It's crucial to follow all five of these practices to ensure effective, healthy, and successful leadership. They are as follows:

  1. MODEL THE WAY: Understand the path you want to travel by exploring your personal mission and values.
  2. INSPIRE A SHARED VISION: Find a passion and find ways to work meaningfully towards that passion.
  3. CHALLENGE THE PROCESS: Be willing to take risks and create other more efficient ways to fulfill your mission.
  4. ENABLE OTHERS TO ACT: Connect with others with similar passions and missions and narrow them down to a common goal.
  5. ENCOURAGE THE HEART: Recognize hard work directed towards the common goal and celebrate the victories along the way.

Tier 1 Final Presentation

I recall how difficult it was to record this video. It was merely two months since classes switched to Zoom format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as I learned from my Tier 1 workshops,  a leader "Model(s) the Way". This wouldn't be giving up, throwing together a project at the last minute, and lack enthusiasm. It would be putting forth my best effort and encouraging others to do the same. I believe that's what I did here, especially while combining it with my love for the theatre.
