True Colors Assessment

Analytical. Creative. Logical.

Organized. Responsible. Stable.

Organized. Responsible. Stable.

Leaders with a "Green" personality are logical and cannot resist undertaking a challenge. Information is this personality's best friend when it comes to solving problems, which they tend to lean towards innovating new solutions rather than relying on old ones

Gold personalities are those that thrive in structured environments in which expectations are clearly defined. They flounder in the midst of disorder and do their best work with a clear direction of work.

As a "Green", I am drawn to both logical problems and using technology to find solutions to these problems. This is expressed in my affinity for logic puzzles, like sudoku, but in my brief stint as an undergraduate researcher. My goal was to compare the different emotional reactions to pre-COVID and COVID-era commercials to see if they would have any bearing on the willingness to purchase from the companies involved. Statistical analysis with R Studio was used to find statistical patterns in the data, which fulfills a Green's need to rationalize a claim with evidence.

Gold personalities are drawn to fields in money management due to their security, organization, and strict fiscal and reporting guidelines. As an accounting major, this part of my leadership style makes sense. Accounting, especially auditing, has several standards set forth my the SEC and PCAOB that must be honored by all practitioners in the field. Failing to follow such procedures would not only be illegal, but could be catastrophic for clients that trust these professionals with their services.

A Green's Work

To display how I've evolved the Green side of my personality from one that was overly logical and somewhat critical to one that was inquisitive and open to obtaining new knowledge, see the presentation of my independent research project below. Before, I didn't have the confidence or the means to do research on my own, thinking it was only for STEM students. When I realized that any field outside of STEM progresses with research too, it was a call to action to use my MIS and accounting background to answer my questions regarding COVID's effect on consumers.

Some Things Never Change

Newer Results: Gold Majority

Upon taking the assessment again as a Tier 4 member, I've come to see that my results haven't changed too drastically. However, rather than remaining tied as a Green and Gold, I have tested as a pure Gold this time around. This shows some development in Gold-related traits and easing in Green traits over the past three years. One Green trait that I always struggled with was my perfectionism. Greens tend to be susceptible to this due to their intelligence, competency, and the desire to maintain excellence out of fear of disappointing others. Rather than obsessing over this need for flawlessness, I've learned through various BHLP activities (notably the community Tier 2 and 3 projects) to work with a team and focus more on a structured plan of attack than the results following. The experience of planning and organization has helped bring out more of the Gold in me than before.
